You can find an English version of the interview below the French one.

Version Francaise

Pozzo Live : Bonjour !

Nova Twins : Oh, on adore Toulouse ! On veut retourner là-bas.

Pozzo Live : Ça a l’air génial !

English Version

Pozzo Live: Hello ! It’s a real pleasure to see you back in France. You were my last concert before the Covid in Toulouse..

Nova Twins : Oh we love Toulouse!! We want to come back to Toulouse.

Pozzo Live: So it’s really good to see you again in France.

Nova Twins : Yes two years later. And we played here before as well so we’re happy to be back at Rock School Barbey.

Pozzo Live: It’s the 5th show of the tour.. Is it still cool to be in France?

Nova Twins : Yes! We love France, it’s one of the first countries that welcomed us. And we’ve done so much festival gig in here, we’ve done a lot of shows around here, so it feels like our second home. We’ve got so many memories here.

Pozzo Live: I remember your show at Hellfest like 3 years ago, and there were so many people in front of you at this time in the morning, it’s a world record, it was mental.

Nova Twins : It was mad, yes ! It was like 11? In the UK at that time, it’s not a good time to play, but in France like, everybody was there, it was amazing. We thought we were going to play to no one, so we were casually going to the stage and we were like “oh my god, the whole festival is here”.

Pozzo Live: I remember, it was a massive show. How do we start? I have a few questions about what happened the last two years, about what will happen during next year. Maybe let’s start talking about the new album which will be out shortly?

Nova Twins : Yeah, in the summer. June 17th to be exact. We wrote a lot of the album over lockdown, we had nothing to do, we weren’t gigging, we didn’t know what was gonna happen to the live music scene. I think after a while, we watched a lot of tv, we did nothing, we mopped around and then we were like: lets pick it back up. And then the first song we wrote is actually coming out in a week’s time, Cleopatra. That’s coming out soon and we’re really excited ‘cause that’s one of the first songs we wrote in lockdown.

Pozzo Live: I’ve listened to the first two singles which are awesome as always. It’s cool to see that you managed to do some clips and have new images and new looks and all that kind of stuff. It’s a whole piece of art, and not just music, and for me, that’s what’s awesome with your music and the album that’s going to be out shortly.

Nova Twins : Thank you! Yeah, we had so much fun doing our videos and making our clothes, especially for K.M.B. We found the house in an area that we live because we went to this all-female shop that they put in a house. Each floor had artists there,  it was a really a nice environment. And we went to see the owner and were like “Can we shoot a video in your house?”, and she was like “Of course. But only if you call the song Kill My Husband, ‘cause he’s been a bad boy to me multiple times”. And we were like oh my god, this energy of her house that she decorated all herself, and the song, it just felt perfect. Like, an empowering kind of moment. It was really a great day.

Pozzo Live: It seems really cool! We can’t wait to listen to the whole album now. This is the first tour since the pandemic so I guess you’re planning on doing a massive world tour with a lot of shows everywhere?

Nova Twins : We’ve got some fun tours coming up that aren’t announced yet, we can’t say in the moment. But we’re excited to be going to the US soon, we haven’t really toured there before, and some fun festivals in the Europe and the UK.

Pozzo Live: I saw that you were also playing with Yungblud at the Royal Albert Hall in a few weeks.

Nova Twins : Yeah, on March 21st. It’s the teenage cancer trust, it’s for a really good cause and it should be a really good night. They’ve got different events going on with lots of a great acts: Ed Sheeran, Liam Gallagher…

Pozzo Live: Yeah and also, the Royal Albert Hall which is a supermassive place to play.

Nova Twins : Yeah, it’s legendary. We’ve been there before but we’ve never played it. It’s so royal, literally, so it’s going to be an honor to play ‘cause it’s beautiful.

Pozzo Live: Also talking about tour and concerts, you recently did a tour with Bring Me The Horizon which ended with a supermassive show at the O2.

Nova Twins : It was such a dream tour. We had so much fun, everybody was lovely, welcoming, it was the first time that we played arena shows, so it was a little bit of a shock to us! We went from being in lockdown to suddenly being in arena shows. Every night we were shaking, but with excitement and a healthy amount of nerves. Then we’d come out and play 1×1 on their song, our collaboration, and that was really crazy as well. The O2 arena was intense, it felt like a dream.

Pozzo Live: It was so cool to see that you were featured on this album. When I received it from the press, and I just started to see the titles and saw Nova Twins, I was like “Oh my god that’s awesome!”

Nova Twins : I know, we were just so small compared to the other collabs. I think Oli just found us on his workout playlist on Spotify and then just instagrammed us, and we were just like ‘oh my god’. It was a shock; we were like checking if it’s real.

Pozzo Live: These past two years were hard with everything that happened, but for you, it was two years with a lot of opportunities. You grew up so fast without any gigs which is kind of ironic but also awesome because you exploded without even playing your music.

Nova Twins : Yeah, we were really lucky over lockdown just with the opportunities that came along. So many bands found it so hard to survive through the lockdown cause it was such a crazy time, so we’re grateful for our audience for sticking with us, for holding on to their tickets ‘cause we’ve been rescheduling all the shows, not knowing what’s going on, so we’re grateful. We’re really lucky.

Pozzo Live: Also talking about what happened during the last years, there were very powerful times with the Black Lives Matter movement which was very sad and very hard to live but also very powerful to see that everyone stuck together. I wanted to know if you noticed some differences in the music world after that movement, if something changed, and what’s your opinion on the “new music world” after this?

Nova Twins : Yeah, we definitely saw a lot for changes for the better. I think a lot of people looked internally at who they were hiring, who they were keeping around them, who they were supporting. When it came to people looking at their playlist, looking at their staff, it wasn’t really diverse at all, there weren’t a lot of black people in it. And then it was obviously in the music section: black music, black culture played such a huge part in music. It didn’t make sense for no one to be working in the A&R or the labels, so I think a lot of people had awarded themselves and realized the error even though it probably wasn’t intentional and how we were being quite closed as a country or as a community. It was really good to see people opening up, starting to open up and try their best. It wasn’t just music, in work, everyone suddenly was looking inwards. Some people were posers, some people were like putting up a black box and didn’t want to do anything just to jump on a trend and then you see later on that we’re back to normal again. Rock music had this new resurgence because it’s diversified, lot of the bands are women that are creative and bringing something fresh to the table. It’s good to see bands come together cause 9 times out of 10, it’s always gonna be better when people stick their heads together. It’s good to see a change.

Pozzo Live: I think it’s a very good point that things change. I saw that there were a new record label from Fever333 which is the 333 Wreckords which also promotes a lot of bands with other cultures, bands of colors, bands that didn’t have the chance to be on stage before maybe, and that’s awesome to see that all this energy grew up with the will of people.

Nova Twins : Yes! Jason’s amazing, he’s an incredible human and the loveliest man. He’s the nicest guy of rock, he’s like Jesus. On stage he’s a demon, but he’s a good guy, he’s so sweet.

Pozzo Live: You’re also touring with a lot of women, with Imparfait, with Dream Nails, and other bands during previous tours. So it’s cool to see that you always manage to try to show to a lot of people, people that are not in the lights all the time.

Nova Twins : Yes, I think that’s what we wanted to do, especially when we started touring again to literally put it into an action and bring people up and that’s why we created the playlist Voices of the unheard, to show people that there are so many bands who are just killing it out there so we’re just so excited to be able to take these bands on tour.

Pozzo Live: That’s awesome because now you can have the power to say “Now, we want to make this band grow up so let’s take them with us and let’s go on tour”. You can help people, other bands and their music.

Nova Twins : Yeah that’s what it’s about, bringing people up with you and connecting together and just making sure that we collectively own the space and that it’s not the industry holding all the cards. The musicians and the artists have a big part to play in it so it’s good to unify.

Pozzo Live: Just to finish, we have a question that we ask to each interview so you have already answered it a few times. We want to ask you if you can give us a band that you think we should interview after. The goal of this is to have a kind of chain, like “Nova Twins told us to interview this one, and this one told us this one… to bring it into a circle”. So if you have any bands to recommend, do not hesitate.

Nova Twins : Definitely Imparfait, they’re killing it, they’re from France and they’re an incredible band. We love them and we’re going to bring them out again to do European shows. We wanna keep supporting them, they’re a good band, so yeah, Imparfait. They’re great. Even though we necessarily can’t understand the language, it’s so powerful about the music and the message and it’s great for us to hear that music being done in French. Because now, there’s Spanish coming through the radio, and everyone listens to it, or Korean and things, which is great, but French sounds great as well so we really want to encourage that as well.
